Traumatic full-thickness infraspinatus and teres minor tendon tears.

چکیده
The patient was a 23-year-old male professional American football player who played wide receiver. He injured his right shoulder 3 days earlier during practice, diving to catch a pass and landing on his right arm while it was outstretched overhead. When he landed on the ground, the patient reported that he felt his right shoulder dislocate. Based on the patient's mechanism of injury and the findings of a physical examination by an orthopaedic surgeon and a physical therapist, radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging were ordered. Though the radiographs were interpreted as normal, magnetic resonance imaging revealed full-thickness infraspinatus and teres minor tendon tears at their insertion sites on the humerus.

Patterns of Age-Associated Degeneration Differ in Shoulder Muscles
Shoulder complaints are common in the elderly and hamper daily functioning. These complaints are often caused by tears in the muscle-tendon units of the rotator cuff (RC). The four RC muscles stabilize the shoulder joint. While some RC muscles are frequently torn in shoulder complaints others remain intact. The pathological changes in RC muscles are poorly understood. We investigated changes in...
متن کاملPrevalence of rotator cuff tears in adults with traumatic brachial plexus injuries.
BACKGROUND Restoration of shoulder function is a primary goal when treating patients with traumatic brachial plexus injury. A concomitant rotator cuff tear may alter the treatment approach and prognosis for these individuals. The purpose of this study was to define the prevalence of rotator cuff tears in patients with traumatic brachial plexus injuries. METHODS This is a retrospective review ...
متن کاملAcromio humeral distance less than six millimeter: its meaning in full-thickness rotator cuff tear.
UNLABELLED The present study sought to identify full-thickness rotator cuff tears liable to induce an acromiohumeral distance (AHD) of less than 6 mm. The hypothesis was that, less than 6mm AHD is found exclusively in association with total full-thickness infraspinatus tear. MATERIALS A continuous single-center series recruited 109 shoulders, free of glenohumeral osteoarthritis, presenting wi...
متن کاملThe 'dropping' and 'hornblower's' signs in evaluation of rotator-cuff tears.
We studied 54 patients operated on for combined supraspinatus and infraspinatus rotator-cuff tears. The presence or absence of the dropping and hornblower's clinical signs of impaired external rotation were correlated with Goutallier stage-3 or stage-4 fatty degeneration of infraspinatus and teres minor. These grades of fatty degeneration have previously been correlated with a poorer outcome fr...
متن کاملVariation in external rotation moment arms among subregions of supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and teres minor muscles.
A rotator cuff tear causes morphologic changes in rotator cuff muscles and tendons and reduced shoulder strength. The mechanisms by which these changes affect joint strength are not understood. This study's purpose was to empirically determine rotation moment arms for subregions of supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and for teres minor, and to test the hypothesis that subregions of the cuff tendons ...
